Anxiety Therapy

What is Anxiety?

Anxiety symptoms can include a sense of fear, vigilance, or a constant feeling that your brain and body are ‘on edge’. You may experience thoughts and emotions that are intrusive, distressing or play in a never-ending loop.

Concentration can get really difficult, your mind can ‘go blank’, or you feel strangely disconnected from loved ones. Cognitive-based tasks feel overwhelming and you are vulnerable to procrastination.

You might be grappling with anxiety if it never leaves you alone. If it feels out of proportion to the stressors in your life or, becomes increasingly difficult to control. If you are using all of your energy to soothe and cope and find no relief from anxiety, it can be helpful to seek additional support.

You don’t have to feel this way on a permanent basis. Our therapists are skilled and experienced in treating anxiety and supporting you to find your way back to peace, security, and calm.

Understanding

Making sense of anxiety

Our map for reclaiming peace

While anxiety is common, its origins are unique to each person. At The Center for Connection, Healing and Change, we offer a deeper dive into your relationship with anxiety and how it plays out in your life.

We utilize evidence-based therapy models, offering a tried-and-tested approach to treating anxiety. We focus on more than just your surface thoughts and corresponding behaviors. Instead, we focus on helping you create lasting relief from your anxiety.

We support clients to explore the complexity of their relationship with anxiety. First, the unique history, onset, and specific stressors. Then, the ways you learned to manage emotions, relationships, trauma, or loss. Finally, we explore your limiting beliefs, support systems, internal resources, and vulnerabilities.

Understanding your anxiety symptoms allows you to heal any unresolved issues and create space for a sense of internal peace, calm, and groundedness.

You can deal with stress and challenge in more effective ways and live life from a more secure emotional place. A place where you don’t have to get caught up in patterns that no longer serve you.

Change

Moving through anxiety symptoms

Restoring calm and safety

We can support you to identify and heal the underlying causes of anxiety. Anxiety therapy can include trauma-focused therapy, mind-body or somatic approaches such as EMDR, or relational therapy that helps you understand the role your relationship experiences might have had in shaping your anxiety responses.

The body can be vulnerable to holding on to stress, hurt, or overwhelm until we are ready to release or resolve it safely. Anxiety, fear, or vigilance can be symptoms of unprocessed pain. Processing this pain can unburden you from responding to the world from a place of anxiety and support you to trust, reach out, and know that you are worthy of feeling secure in the world.

Where you have experienced life events that felt overwhelming or were outside of your capacity to cope with or make sense of, we can help you move through the impact this had had on your sense of security and worthiness.

Where your experience of relationships has shaped your anxiety responses, we can support you to unpack any problematic patterns or internal maps for connection. Our therapists are skilled in working with family of origin experiences, adverse childhood experiences, and any anxiety symptoms these may produce.
